AWARDS – Honorary Palme d’or
An honorary Palme d’or has been awarded to Agnès Varda for her entire career.
To present her with the award, the Festival invited her friend Jane Birkin. The actress was keen to celebrate Agnès Varda’s tenacity, calling her “a soldier, a fighter, stronger than all of us, the only woman of the Nouvelle Vague”.
Agnès Varda was extremely moved and paid tribute to her deceased husband, Jacques Demy: “This Palme will be placed in our home beside Jacques’ Palme. In the virtual life I continue with him, there are two real palms fluttering: on the Croisette and in the Bay of Angels”.
