Three hundred years after the flood, three clans are tearing each other apart: Jacob the breeder and his son’s clan; the nomadic hunters led by Esaü and the settled farmers whose chief is Hamor. Esaü the hunter harbours a mortal hatred for Jacob, his younger brother, since he usurped Esaü’s natural primogeniture. Cloistered in his camp, Jacob mourns the supposed death of his son, Joseph. Hamor’s son, Sichem, kidnaps Dina, Jacob’s daughter.
