After being expelled from school for bad behaviour and almost ruining his mother’s life, Valerka leaves to go north near the Amour estuary. To make this voyage he decides to take the train and boat to arrive at Nikolaïevsk-sur-l’Amour where he thinks he will find his aunt whom he doesn’t know.
