John Wilson is a man obsessed. He is a man preoccupied with his own visions and experience, regardless of the cost to other. He is a brilliant, controversial film director with a huge production underway in Africa, yet his attention is elsewhere. Despite the protestations of his friend and confidant, screenwriter Peter Verril, Wilson has made up his mind to hunt and kill the most magnificent animal on earth: the African elephant. Loosely based on novelist Peter Viertel’s experiences with director John Huston, “White Hunter, Black Heart” is an uncopromising look at one uncompromising man.
