Sofia COPPOLA

Sofia Coppola was born in New York City and grew up in Northern California. Following her first short-film "Lick the Star" (1998), she made her feature-film directing debut with "The Virgin Suicides" in 1999. Four years later she received the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for her second feature film "Lost in Translation", and became the first American woman to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director. Her third film was the biopic "Marie Antoinette" which debuted at the 2006 Festival de Cannes, where it received a standing ovation. In 2010 she won a Golden Lion from the Venice Film Festival for her fourth film "Somewhere". Sofia Coppola's most recent film "The Bling Ring" opened the Un Certain Regard section of the 2013 Festival de Cannes.
