Quentin Dupieux’s superheroes take over the screen at the Grand Théâtre Lumière
Quentin Dupieux's imagination knows no bounds and he proves it once again with Smoking Causes Coughing (Fumer fait tousser), a feature film that looks like a Japanese superhero series. This comedy with a superb cast is screened tonight in the Midnight Screening.
Don't let their blue suits fool you, they are formidable. The five vigilantes of the Tobacco Force are required to take a break after defeating a giant demonic turtle. They retreat to recreate the unity that made them strong, but they haven’t reckoned with an apocalyptic threat: Lézardin, the Emperor of Evil who wants to destroy the planet.
Superheroes in tight suits against oversized beasts. Quentin Dupieux was inspired by sentai – the Japanese series for children like Bioman or Power Rangers. A universe made to measure for the creative director of Mandibles, Deerskin, Reality and Steak, each more zany than the last and yet sensitive and profound.
In putting together his Tobacco Force, Quentin Dupieux rallied Gilles Lellouche, Anaïs Desmoustier, Oulaya Amamra and Vincent Lacoste and Jean-Pascal Zadi. A dream cast, also including: Adèle Exarchopoulos, Benoit Poelvoorde, Doria Tillier, Blanche Gardin and his ever-faithful friend Alain Chabat.
