Romanian born, Alexandra Maria Lara lives in Germany. After studying dramatic art, she made her debut in television. In 1999, she shot with Maximilian Schell in Just Messing About, a first film which opened up to her the doors of German productions, such as Naked by Doris Dörrie, in competition at the 2002 Venice Film Festival.
Hailed for her role in The Downfall by Oliver Hirschbiegel (2004 Oscar nominee), she next worked with Helmut Dietl and Doris Dörrie. In 2007, under the direction of Anton Corbijn (Control), Francis Coppola (Youth Without Youth) and James Ivory (The City of Your Final Destination), her career took on international scope.
She will soon be starring in Miracle at St. Anna by Spike Lee and The Reader by Steven Daldry.
