MAZEPPA
Grand Prix de la Commission Supérieure Technique 1993
Based on several facts in the life of Théodore Géricault, and especially his fiery passion for horses, Bartabas weaves an intrigue around the meeting of Franconi, horse trainer and director of the Olympic Circus. When Géricault painted his project for Mazeppa, it was the first time that a French painter had interpreted what was to become one of the favourite themes of Romanticism. Mazeppa incarnates man carried away by his passion, or the artist drawn by his genius towards the unknown.
