The film recounts the last years of the American cornet player, Leon “Bix” Beiderbecke, before his death in New York, during the summer of 1931, at the early age of 28. The story is told to a mysterious girl during a train journey, by Joe Venuti, the Italian-American violonist who shared both the excitement and the crushing disappointments of Bix’s meteoric and tragic career.
